Review USD Transformer: What makes the USD Transformer unique?
The USD Transformer is one of the few aggressive skates that come in extremely small sizes, starting at size 33. As a result, for many young skaters, this is the only available option, since most aggressive skates typically start at size 35 or larger. Additionally, it features a comfortable liner, decent frames, and solid wheels and bearings, making it a great choice for beginners. Read the details in this review of the USD Transformer
Problems with the USD Transformer
Below are the key issues and potential solutions:
- Weak cuff bolts – The cuff bolts are pop-riveted instead of screwed in, which means they can loosen over time.
- Plastic frame spacers – These spacers tend to break after extended use, causing wheel misalignment.
- Frame movement – Some skaters experience slight wiggle room between the frame and the boot.
- Weak soleplate attachment – The soleplate can detach after heavy use.
Fixing the weak points
Many of these issues of the USD Transformer can be fixed with simple modifications.
Here’s how we improved the skate:
- Frame stability – We replaced the UFS bolts with stronger ones to remove frame movement.
- Soleplate reinforcement – An additional T-nut and bolt were added to prevent the soleplate from detaching.
- Spacer issue – We suggest checking the spacers regularly and, if they start to crack, replacing them quickly.
Unfortunately, we can't upgrade the plastic frame spacers to metal ones in our Review of the USD Transformer because they are no longer in production. Still, there’s hope. If enough skaters contact Powerslide or Kaiser (the brand behind USD’s frames), they might consider bringing the metal spacers back in the future.
Is the USD Transformer worth it?
The USD Transformer comes in two adjustable sizes:
- Size 33-36
- Size 37-40
For larger skaters, we recommend exploring other models with stronger construction.
